RFI
INFORMATION
When we have interference from power lines it is a good
idea to have a good contact in your power company.
Don't get the run around by people in the power company
who don't even know what RFI means.
After months of getting the run around being told month
after month that they had check all the grounds etc . and
there was no problem in their system, I guess they got tired
of my complaints they turned my complaint to their home
office some 100 miles way. I received a telephone call from
N6CKS, Rory Bowers, Communication Tech III with the Imperial
Irrigation District Power Company. He called to set up an
appointment to visit my ham shack to investigate the noise I
was experiencing. It took him less than 2 hours to find a
problem and order the local district get on it. A ground was
missing from a High Tension Power pole due to an auto
accident last March.
Here is what it took for him and
his equipment to find the problem.

Rory, N6CKS, has
DXCC and will show up on the net as his time permits. He
has pictures of his station and most
of
his QSL card inventory posted here. http://www.qsl.net/n6cks
When
Rory checked with me I told him the noise was
still present and sent him the picture below.

This meant his making
another trp to find thr problem ( another 6 defective
grounds on a different Hi Tension feed system). When the
local troubleshooting crew fixed the 6 Rory reported they
found 7 more defective grounds. (Total of 14 individual
problems)
Below is is the
picture of the results of their efforts to eliminate
the noise,

From my experience I recommend
you make contact with the proper person in your power company
before you have a problem he is likely a ham.
