San Francisco 2/6/1921, Graduated Sacramento (CA) High School
1939. Member 1940 US Olympic Swimming Team. Served in US Naval Air
Corps WWII, Ensign to Lt.Cmdr. received the Distinguished Flying
Cross . Received BSEE Utah State University, Logan, Utah 6/47,
Graduate studies at Harvard and MIT.
First licensed 1/2/40 as W6SID, Other calls held W0SID, while
engineer at Collins Radio, W5OAI, at Los Alamos , NM also formed
my engineering company representing such companies as HP,
Tektronix and Varian Assocs. Retired 1962. Moved to CA, then to WA
held KB6KQN, WB7WEI, KB7KE. Life Member Western Washington DX
Club, also served as trustee. DXCC 309 Countries. Winner for 7th
call area, 7th in USA 1980 CQ World Wide WPX Contest for Single
Station, Multiple Operators. NZART Awards, New Zealand County
Hunters 224 Award #37 World Wide, ENZART TOP HONORS Award #1 World
Wide. Was mobile 1983 to 1989 as we toured the US in our RV.
Retired Electronic Engineering Rep. enjoying the casual life in
the Palm Springs area.

SOME OF MY STATIONS
MY FIRST STATION W6SID
1940
Back in 1940(pre WWII) the only
license one could et as a new amateur radio operator was known
as a Class B license (None existent today). It had to be taken
at the FCC office in San Francisco in my case after of one year
of only 40 meter cw and 160 meter AM you could take the Class A
exam (Advanced today) Extra Class License was non-existent at
that time. My station consisted of:
Bretting 9 Receiver (9 tubes
including power supply)
6L6 Crystal Oscillator
(home brew)
80 Rectifier Power supply
Antenna was a half wave

This my
Station near Seattle in 1980 when I was a net controller for the
Bill Bennett Family Hour. This station also won the CQ WORLD
WIDE WPX CONTEST for the 7th call area and 7th in the USA. It
consisted of the Drake Twins, TR4C & TX4C, into a Dentron
Clipperton-L Amplifier 1KW and a Hi-Gain TH-5 Beam as the
antenna

The R-7 Multi-Band Half
Wave Vertical for 6, 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 30, and 40 Meters
There are no ground
radials required and is only 22.5 feet tall having a small
footprint it meets the CC&R requirements. It switches bands
automatically and has a very low angle of radiation (nice for
DX) and will handle up to 1200 watts.
