When
Bill, W7PHO, became a silent key the Net was inherited by Joanie and
Jerry, Branson in Junction City, Oregon. Joanie...KA6V assumed
most of the actual operation of the Net. In April of 1994 she became
a Silent Key and her husband Jerry...AA6BB,continued the
Net supervision. He added Walt...W6BMG, and Paul...W8GIO, to join
Gene...W6IMA as controllers. The increased Net Participation
caused Jerry to seek supervisory additions and create a
Trustee Arrangement, together with Walt and Paul. (a copy of
the document is shown below)

CURRENT
TRUSTEE HISTORY, WALT...DON...ELLIOTT
CHIEF
TRUSTEE, Walt,
W6BMG
It is of interest how Walt
found the NET and then how the NET found Walt.
First licensed in 1938 as
W2LBF. Was employed in Ham Department by a well known Distributor
located on "Radio Row" Cortlandt Street, NYC. World War 2.
had him overseas in the Pacific with the Signal Corps. The War ended
and he started his own parts distributor selling to industrial
users. In 1958 he moved to Los Angeles expanding the company coast
to coast. Walt enjoyed world traveling via many cruise ships and
made lots of Ham contacts found on the NET. He was able to make
visits scheduled via those contacts and many "eyeball QSO's"
were made. Walt's activity resulted in a close friendship with Jerry
Branson who inherited the NET when Bill Bennett became a silent key.
When Jerry hatched the "Trustee Plan", the NET found
Walt.
TRUSTEE, DON,
KS7C
Retired engineer from Bendix
Corp. First licensed in 1961as WA2RIB in New Jersey, upgraded to
extra 1981 as AA2D, moved to Washington in 1981 as KS7C and stared a
,music business, retiring in 1993. Enjoys traveling with wife Terry
N7IHM. In the early1990's the Net helped me achieve a DX Honor Roll position.
It also built a friendly relationship with Jonie and Jerry Branson.
When Jerry became a silent key, Walt... W6BMG called
me and mentioned conversations with Jerry that I be asked to join
the Trustee Group, which I accepted. At the present certain
home duties decreases the time I can devote. However that is
temporary and look forward to future full time service.
TRUSTEE, ELLIOTT,
W7EB
First licensed in 1954
as a novice - KN6ELX in California. a year later my General call
became K6ELX. After several years my DXing expanded with license
upgrades to Advanced and then Extra. The planned retirement from ABC
- TV and a consequent move to Las Vegas furthered a call change to
W7EB. Most of my operating was via the Net and the
ensuing relationship with Walt... W6BMG. We met during a Las
Vegas visit and Walt proposed my joining the Controllers. I graduated
to Chief Controller and later on was appointed as a
trustee, when Paul - W8GTO no longer could be active.
HISTORIC
FCC RELATIONS
WALT W6BMG,
OCTOBER 1999
The first was a telephone
call to Mr. Hollingsworth in October, 1999. The NET was losing
participation due to a surge of SLOW SCAN stations, mostly from
Europe, operating on the same or close to 14226.5 Hz frequency. All
efforts by the NET failed to solve the problem. Walt indicated that
he would like to relocate to another frequency in the General Class
segment of the band. The actual frequency would be the result of
ample timed results. Mr. Hollingsworth concurred and asked to be
notified if any major problems were encountered. Walt spent several
weeks of frequency testing and found 14245 Hz provided the
acceptance sought. During the next five months the popularity of the
NET became substantial and of consequence a NEW THREAT-from a few
fanatic DXers. This group was-against any-NET -help offered to
stations whose circumstances were not as competitive and new to the
world of DX. This persistent group, hoping favor from the FCC,
started attacking certain NET formats claiming non compliance with
FCC Rules. These HECKLERS occurring during the NET'S operation were
meant to be disruptive and Walt once more approached the FCC.
WALT W6BMG,
MARCH, 2000
A letter, written in March,
2003, addressed to Mr Hollingworth detailed the operation of the
NET. It mainly covered FCC Part 97 and rulings devoted to the use of
the " LAST TWO " and the flexibility of the " 10
MINUTE RULE ". The letter specifically asks if compliance is
met by the NET. A reply stated "there is no
enforcement problems with your net operations". A copy of the
letter and reply are on file at both the Chief Trustee’s and
Historian’s QTH.
